Cellulite Reduction
Nobody likes cellulite, but practically every woman has it. One of the most common questions we hear at ChicMed is “How can I get rid of cellulite?” We offer VelaShape® III, the only non-invasive approach that’s approved by the FDA for cellulite reduction, at our Waltham med spa. VelaShape is a body contouring procedure that combines infrared light, radiofrequency energy, and vacuum technology to smooth out the dimpled, cottage cheese-like look of cellulite.

How VelaShape III Works
The unique, handheld VelaShape device combines 4 different technologies—infrared light, bipolar radiofrequency (RF) energy, suction, and massage—to reduce cellulite and leave your skin looking smoother. It’s important to remember that even though cellulite is associated with fat, it’s a condition that can affect just about anyone (women are much more likely to have cellulite than men.)
Cellulite develops when fat deposits push through the connective tissue beneath the skin. It’s extremely common; it’s estimated that 80 to 90% of women experience some degree of cellulite. Like other nonsurgical body contouring procedures, VelaShape isn’t a weight-loss treatment.

VelaShape III is an ideal option for women with mild to moderate dimpling (Grades 1 or 2) and we can customize the treatment based on their specific needs. For ChicMed patients who specifically want a fat reduction procedure, we can use CoolSculpting® for their treatments.
A VelaShape procedure can take as little as 20 or 30 minutes or more than an hour, depending on the patient’s needs. Because there are no needles or incisions required for the treatment, it’s performed without an anesthetic. As the esthetician guides the device across the treatment area, patients feel a deep heating sensation. Multiple sessions are recommended to achieve the desired results.

Results
As with other nonsurgical body contouring and cellulite reduction procedures, VelaShape’s results gradually emerge during the weeks following the treatment sessions. The production of collagen and elastic tightens the skin and fat cells shrink to improve the body’s contours in the treatment area. The results can last several months, but subsequent treatments are needed to maintain the desired appearance.
